How Much Does Extractor Fan Cleaning Cost?

Aaron May
Kitchen extractor grease filter, half greasy and half clean, below a stainless steel cooker hood

Extractor fan cleaning with us costs £15 for a small extractor or £35 for a large one, added to an oven clean on the same visit. That covers the accessible hood surfaces and any grease filters that are suitable for cleaning. If you only want the extractor done, without an oven, ring us on 07716 273320 for a separate price.

Here’s what you get for that, what isn’t included and how to tell which size you’ve got.

Our extractor cleaning prices

  • Small extractor: £15, as an add-on to an oven clean
  • Large extractor: £35, as an add-on to an oven clean
  • Extractor only, no oven: priced separately, so give us a ring

Those prices include VAT, there’s no travel charge anywhere in our Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire area, and you pay after you’ve seen the result. To add one, choose your extractor under the extras in our instant quote calculator.

Is mine small or large?

As a rough guide, a slimline or integrated hood tucked under a wall cupboard is usually small. A chimney hood, a wide hood over a range cooker or an island extractor is usually large. If you’re not sure, send us a photo or the model number before you book and we’ll tell you which it is. There’s no guessing on the day.

What the clean covers

Cooking grease rises, so the hood above your hob catches the fat your oven clean doesn’t touch. It builds up as a sticky film on the outside and a thick layer in the filters. We clean:

  • the accessible outside and underside of the hood
  • metal grease filters that are suitable for cleaning
  • the parts we’ve agreed with you beforehand for your model

Please leave the filters fitted. We’d rather check them in place so we can see which parts are safe to remove and clean. If anything’s loose, damaged or hard to reach, such as a hood near a high ceiling, mention it when you book.

What isn’t included

The £15 and £35 prices are for a domestic extractor clean. They don’t cover the ductwork inside the wall or ceiling, commercial kitchen extraction, repairs or replacement filters.

Filters are worth a quick word. Most hoods have metal mesh filters that catch grease, and those can usually be cleaned. Some also have charcoal (carbon) filters, normally on hoods that recirculate air back into the kitchen rather than venting it outside. Charcoal filters can’t be cleaned. They need replacing, and your hood’s manual will tell you how often. Replacement filters aren’t included in our price.

Cleaning won’t always fix an extractor that’s noisy or barely pulling air. Clogged filters can make a fan struggle, but a worn motor is a repair job. If the fan isn’t working properly, tell us before the visit so you’re not expecting the clean to sort it.

Is it worth adding to your oven clean?

If the hood is sticky to touch, the filters have gone brown, or there’s a smell of old fat when the fan runs, it’s worth the extra £15 or £35. A sparkling oven under a greasy hood still looks like a dirty kitchen, and we’re already there with everything we need.

Want to keep on top of it yourself between visits? Mesh filters can usually go in a hot soapy soak every month or two, but check your manual first, because some aren’t dishwasher safe. Our guide to keeping your oven clean between professional cleans has more tips like this.

Extractor fan cleaning questions

How much does extractor fan cleaning cost?

With The Oven Charmer, a small extractor is £15 and a large extractor is £35, added to an oven clean. Extractor-only visits are priced separately.

Can I book an extractor clean without an oven clean?

Yes, but it’s priced separately. Ring us on 07716 273320 to check availability and get a price.

Do you clean the ductwork?

No. Our prices cover the accessible hood surfaces and suitable grease filters on a domestic extractor. Internal ductwork and commercial extraction aren’t included.

Can charcoal extractor filters be cleaned?

No. Charcoal (carbon) filters need replacing rather than cleaning. Metal mesh grease filters can usually be cleaned. Replacement filters aren’t included in our price.

Will cleaning fix a noisy extractor fan?

Not always. Clogged filters can make a fan struggle, but a worn motor or other fault needs a repair. Tell us before the visit if the fan isn’t working properly.
